Homeschooling in a Crisis Part 3

You might be a few weeks into homeschooling now. Maybe you are finding your original goals unattainable and are discouraged and just tired. Maybe you've gotten into a good rhythm and are in a good place. Either way, I hope you find these words encouraging.

      Spiritual Practices
  1. Pray and ask the Lord to humble you. Ask for extended grace, patience and forgiveness.
  2. Study the word and memorize scripture together. Especially at a time like this, there is no greater encouragement!
  3. When the conflict comes, because it will, be prepared. Spend time in prayer over this. (For example, in our home, when we have sibling arguments, I will often have them sit near each other and speak kind and encouraging words about one another.) I’ll ask, “Is it kind? Is it helpful? Does it give others a blessing? We need to be especially aware of what comes out of our mouths.
  4. Commit this time with your family to the Lord multiple times a day. Ask for wisdom and understanding. Thank Him for His many blessings and provisions. Thank him for this time. Remember that your children are a blessing and He has given you the ability to provide what they need.
  5. Lastly, pray for revival. The Lord has allowed this opportunity to come together as families. To slow down and ask Him what is most important. The church begins in the home. We need to be able to do life together as husband and wife, parents and children, before we are equipped to do life outside of the home. To speak to one another kindly, love each other, learn to work through conflict and differences. Let this be our mission for the time being.

Certainly, let’s not forget to continue to connect to the outside world. To reach out, encourage, and help. But don’t be afraid to put the phone and distractions away and focus on the needs of our families on a day to day basis.

There are so many wonderful resources, tips and homeschooling ideas out there. You are all in my prayers. This is a wonderful journey that God has planned for you and your family during this time.

My sincere love to each one of you. -  Heather
